Printing methods

Screen printing in Bristol for bulk orders

Solid, vibrant colours, brand-matched inks and special finishes, hand printed in our Portishead shop. Screen printing is the best fit for larger runs of one design.

Our screen printing service

We screen print on a Riley Hopkins 6-colour press. It prints up to 5 colours, plus white ink for dark garments.

We make every film and screen in-house, so we do not rely on anyone else for setup. We print with environmentally friendly inks onto all fabric blends.

Different sized platens let us print on most parts of a garment, from sleeves to the front of a bag. For customers around Portishead, Clevedon, Nailsea and Bristol, you can visit the shop to talk through your order.

When to choose screen printing

What screen printing does best

Larger runs

Each colour needs its own screen, so screen printing works out cost-effective for larger orders, usually from about 25 garments of the same design.

Solid, vibrant colour

Colours print as solid ink rather than a pattern of dots, so they look bold and bright.

Pantone matching

We mix inks to industry-standard Pantone colours to match your brand guidelines.

Special inks

Metallic, fluorescent and glow in the dark inks, which DTF and DTG cannot reproduce.

The process

How a screen print is made

Screen printing is a manual, skilled trade that has changed little over the years. This is what happens for every colour in your design.

  1. FilmWe print a film of one colour of your design.
  2. ScreenA screen is coated in emulsion and left to dry.
  3. ExposureThe screen is exposed to UV light, then washed out and dried again.
  4. PrintInk is pushed through the screen onto each garment, one colour at a time.

Screen printing takes longer than digital printing and cannot be rushed. If you have a deadline, tell us when you ask for a quote.

Who it is for

Screen printing for groups, events and merch

Screen printing suits clubs and teams, events, community groups and band merch. For example, a local community group in Portishead came to us for screen printed t-shirts. We supplied them at a wholesale price, so they could sell them on to supporters to raise funds.

Need only a few garments, or a full colour photo? DTF is a better fit. See all printing methods.

Screen printing questions

Is there a minimum order for screen printing?

There is no fixed minimum, but setup makes small runs expensive. It usually becomes good value from about 25 garments of the same design. For fewer, we recommend DTF printing.

How many colours can you screen print?

Up to 5 colours, plus a white base for dark garments, on our 6-colour press.

Can you match my brand colours?

Yes. We mix inks to Pantone colours to match your brand identity and guidelines.

How do I order screen printing?

Screen printing is not available in the online designer. Contact us with your design, garment, colours and quantities and we will send you a quote.
